C. Richard Sollars, 64, of Florida and formerly of Evansville and Linton, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at William Childs Hospice Home in Palm Bay, Fla.
Richard was born Oct. 3, 1946 in Danville, Ill.
He was a 1966 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and earned his Bachelor's of Science degree from Indiana State University. Richard was a veteran of the United Sates Army, achieving rank of Captain, serving during the Vietnam War as Tank Commander and had owned and operated Linton Glass Company. He was a life member of the American Legion and Elks Club of Linton and the VFW Post 7118 of Cape Canaveral, Fla. Richard was an avid golfer, a devoted husband and a loving son, brother, father and grandfather.
He is survived by: His beloved wife of six years, Elaine (Brown) Sollars of Florida; mother, Louise (White) Sollars of Evansville; daughter, Bridget Fultz (Craig) of Indianapolis; a son, Andrew Sollars (Jessica) of Indianapolis; step-daughter Taylor Broussard of Florida; sister, Dee Clonan (Cliff) of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; brothers, David Sollars (Elaine) and Mark Sollars (Sandy), all of Newburgh; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Sollars in 1992.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with the Rev. Joe Sollars, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Club will perform full military rites.
