Robert E. ˝Bob˝ Leavitt, Sr., 84, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:28 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was born August 22, 1927 in Worthington to Edward P. and Dorothy (Squires) Leavitt.
He was a retired Millwright, Local 1003, and had driven cars for Avis-Budget Rental and several car dealers. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Navy, member of Worthington Christian Church, American Legion, Linton Elks, Past Master of Greene Lodge #577 F. & A. M., Scottish Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, where he was one of the Zips, and Greene Co. Shrine Club. He enjoyed his family, roasting hogs, and playing cards. He made 128 trips taking kids to the Shrine Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Billie (Richardson) Leavitt, of Terre Haute; six children, Vicki (Bill) Messick, Worthington; Beth Miller, Worthington; Mark Leavitt, Ft. Wayne; Mary Leavitt, Indianapolis; Jeri (Bob) Tullius, Brookston; Robert (Heather) Leavitt, Jr, Livonia, MI; nine grandchildren, Kristen Myers, Brian Smith, Carol Couch, Matthew Leavitt, Staci Leavitt, Thomas Tullius; Caitlin Tullius; Madeline Leavitt; four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; one sister, Esther Hines, Linton, former wife, Jeanne Carol Bays, Worthington.
He was preceded in death by children, Lydia Ann and Robert Todd, brothers, Howard and Richard, sisters, Louise Steward and Ruth Vincent, granddaughter, Paige Messick, grandson Collin Tullius.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, with Rev. Mark Grayless. Masonic service will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Shiners Transportation Fund at the funeral home.
