Born Jan. 10, 1932 in Greene County, he was the son of Clifton Ervin and Loretta Marie (Woods) Burks.
He retired as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Indiana State Fox Hunters Association where he served as president for many years and was the current second vice president.
Surviving relatives include: his wife of 62 years, Waunetta Jane Burks whom he married Feb. 1, 1949; his children, Phillip Burks (Darlene) of Worthington, Sharron Brosman (Ronnie) of Bloomington, Nancy White (Mont) of Solsberry, Betty Schulz (Billy) of Bloomfield, Joyce Cain (Emery) of Linton, Dennis Burks (Jennifer) of Bloomfield, Ricky Burks (Denev) of Bronson, Fla., and Randy Burks (Kathy) of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; one sister, Viola Sue Hopkins (Willious) of Bloomington; 24 grandchildren and 50 great, grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Bradley, his parents, one grandchild, and one great, grandchild.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Don Lane officiating. Interment will be in Garrison Chapel cemetery in Bloomington.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
