He was born May 9, 1941, in Greene County, the son of Irvin and Cayula (Stark) Carpenter.
He worked at General Electric in Linton and drove semi trucks for GIBCO. He was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie S. (Houchin) Carpenter, to whom he was married Dec. 23, 1976, five daughters, Patty Lynn (Kevin) Vaughn of Brazil, Linda (Alvin) Myers, Laura (Mike) Faulk, Kathy Jo (Bryan) Cullison, & Donna (Ronnie) Myers, all of Linton, a son, Travis (Niki) Jerrell of Linton, a brother, Loren Carpenter of Marion, two sisters, Mary Bruner of Lyons and Adah Glenn of Linton, a twin sister, Reba Welch of Bloomington, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Ronnie Keith Myers III and a brother, Paul Carpenter.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Dr. Bradley Darr officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund through the funeral home.
