She was born Nov. 30, 1908 to William Henery and Ella May Marshall Yeryar in Howesville, Ind.
On Jan. 20, 1927 she married Alton Brooks Shacklett, and they had four children, with three surviving: two sons Allyn Bryan and June of Linton, Alvis Buell and Debra Jane, daughter Mary Roselyn Shacklett and Ronnie Luxton, and daughter-in-law Pattie Mae Shacklett, all of Jasonville.
She has 11 grandchildren, Dougie (Kathy) Shacklett, Paula Jewel, Jimmy Shacklett, Dallas Shacklett and Danielle Marshall, all of Jasonville, Scott Shacklett of Linton, Rebecca Shacklett and Charles Kennett of Las Vegas, Nev., Tammy Shacklett Goule, who lived with her, Allyn (June) Shacklett of Merom, Lisa (Gary) Burkett of Princeton and Alvis Shacklett of Jasonville; 17 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Harold Ray) Yeryar of Midland, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, one son, Alton Brooks Shacklett II, a grandson, Alton Brett Shacklett, one great-grandson Jason Collier, one brother Buell Yeryar, four sisters Jesse Allen, Olive Washnidge, Alda Marshall and Ruby Hadbey, and three siblings at home Howard, Ira and Lucille Yeryar.
Opal attended Whosoever Will at Dugger. She was a housewife and mother, but worked several places in her youth.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, Ind with Rev. Al Riggle officating.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. till the time of service.
