Warren J. "Jay" Akers, Jr.

Warren J. "Jay" Akers, Jr., 49, of Lexington, NC, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at Wake Forrest Baptist University Hospital in Winston-Salem.

He was born Aug. 31, 1962 in New Castle, IN.

He was a surveyor, Party Chief for WSP-Sells in Mooresville, NC.

He was a Marine Corp Veteran and a member of American Legion in Indianapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Akers, Lexington, NC; parents, Velma and David Thompson, Bicknell; four sons, William, Jayson, David Jay, Phillip; a daughter, Amanda; six grandchildren, Piston, Keira, Kendal, Kaylee, Kaitlyn and Kameron; a brother and three sisters.

Funeral service will be Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, in Worthington, 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.

Military graveside service will be conducted.
