WRV girls score 68 points in season-opener
The White River Valley High School girls basketball team only averaged 26 points per game with a season best of 45 a year ago.
The Lady Wolverines scored 22 in the first quarter and went on to open this season with a 68-10 Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference victory at North Central Tuesday night.
"I was pleasantly surprised," said White River Valley coach A.J. Graves. "I was very satisfied to come out and scored like we did in the first game."
Marissa Miller hit five 3-pointers and led the winners with 23 points. Allison Wininger had 15 points and Briauna George-Fisher added 11.
"We have spent a lot of time practicing shooting game shots in practice," he said. "We did a good job of sharing the ball and making open shots.
"The girls were ready to shoot when they got the ball."
Graves knows its just one game. The Lady Wolverines started 2-0 last year, including a 45-40 victory over North Central, and then lost their final 19 games.
"We are excited, but it is just one game," he said. "We still have a lot of things to work on and have to shore up some mistakes."
In the junior varsity game, the Lady Wolverines also won 42-7. Lexi Pearson led with 18 points, Amy Ragle had 11, Madison Hockman five, J'Lynn Borter, Briauna George-Fisher, Allison Wininger and Jasmine Padgett each scored two and Taylor Resler also played.
White River Valley's game at North Daviess Saturday has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4.
They will host West Vigo at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
