LITTLE CINCINNATI -- Linton-Stockton and Eastern Greene continued to be two Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference girls basketball teams headed in different directions.

The Lady Miners slipped to 0-6 as they lost to the 4-1 host Lady Thunderbirds 51-21 in a conference contest here Tuesday night.

Linton-Stockton dropped to 0-2 in the SWIAC while Eastern Greene improved to 2-0.

"It was a good win for us," said Eastern Greene coach Zack Stevens. "It was a good conference win."

The Lady Miners continued to have problems on offense, making just 7 of 28 shots (25 percent).

"We are still struggling to put the ball in the hole," said Miner boss Brad McKinney. "We have got to shoot the ball better.

"Our offensive execution is not very good. This was a physical game and the girls did not react very well to that."

Linton-Stockton stayed competitive in the first couple of minutes, forging a 5-all tie after two free throws by Courtney Johnson in the first 90 seconds. Johnson, who led the Lady Miners with eight points, scored the first five points for the visitors, including a 3-pointer.

But they only managed one more basket in the quarter as Eastern Greene was ahead 23-8 after the first eight minutes.

"I thought Holly Hammock came in off the bench and gave us a lift," said Stevens. "She had three assists right off the bat and got our offense moving."

The Lady Thunderbirds pushed its cushion to 34-14 at intermission and took a 41-14 advantage to the fourth quarter.

Brittany Igel led the winners with 15 points and seven rebounds while Kelsey Wagner made half of her 12 shots, finishing with 13 points.

"Kelsey had a really good game," said Stevens. "I think she scored three baskets in the first quarter.

"She also played a great defensive game."

Igel and Brittany Martin, who had four points, each had three steals as the Lady Thunderbirds forced Linton-Stockton into 24 miscues.

Eastern Greene shot 22 of 56 (39 percent), but nine different girls scored. They had 17 assists on those 22 baskets. Hammock finished with four assists.

"They are a hard team to match up against," said McKinney. "They have Igel inside and they have some girls that can shoot from the outside."

Brilee Parker had five rebounds and one assist for the Lady Miners. Courtney Johnson collected three steals to go along with eight points.

There was no junior varsity game.

Eastern Greene will host Brown County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lady Miners will be off until Thursday, Dec. 8 when they play another varsity-only conference game at Clay City.
