Francis Plew passed away on Sunday evening, Dec. 25, 2011.
Francis was born on June 2, 1924. He was 87 years old.
Francis is survived by his wife Alice (Ritter) Plew, and they were married for over 65 years. Francis is also survived by his daughter Joyce Fritschle (Brett) of Claremont, Ill., sons Larry (Lynne), Richard (Kay) both of Florida; grandchildren Jason (Shalomoth), Jeffrey (Veronica), Tara (Jay) all of Florida, Jenna (fiancÚ Brian) of Godfrey, Jacob (Rachel) of Olney; great-grandchildren of James and Rebekah and baby Thomas due in March; and brother George of Linton.
Francis is preceded in death by his parents George and Alta; sisters Hazel Phegley, Deloris Wells, and Louise Bishop; and brothers Clifford, Alfred and Lee.
He served for three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was also a coal miner for two years and did carpentry work on the side. He retired from Crane Naval Service Warfare Center as a locomotive engineer after 29 years and was pastor of Grace Gospel Church in Linton for 28 years.
Visitation and funeral service will be on Thursday, Dec. 29 in the Chapel of Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney, Ill., with the visitation commencing at 10 a.m., and the funeral service at noon.
Burial will in the Crest Haven Hope Chapel with the Rev. John Records officiating the service and the Richland County Veterans Organization conducting military rites at the grave location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Bible Church music department or the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc.
Even though his family and friends will miss him, they rejoice in knowing that he has gone to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
