Zelma Irene (Hart) Helderman, 74, of Washington, IN went to heaven to sing with the angels Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.

Zelma was born on April 22, 1937 in Odon, IN to William and Mary Ruth (Smith) Hart. Zelma married Harold D. Helderman, the light of her life, on Dec. 31, 1955.

Zelma had a contagious personality, full of life, laughter and fun. She enjoyed camping, cooking, sewing, working puzzles and most of all, spending time with family. Her abundant smile lit every room she walked into. She will be so dearly missed and never forgotten by her friends and family. She was a member of the Bethel South Baptist Church in Washington.

Zelma is survived by her spouse, Harold Dwight; two daughters, Beverly (Harley Taylor) Shockley of Camby, Charlotte (Vertis) Hardesty of Linton; four grandchildren, Chris (Rachel) Hardesty, Nathan (Nikki) Hardesty, Seth and Zachary Shockley; five great-grandchildren, Questyn, Lillian, Adilynn, Lucas and Lydia; three brothers, Ray (Orris) Hart of Odon, John Hart, Odon; Fred Hart, Linton; three sisters, Marilyn Scott, Epsom; Betty Birt, Washington and Margaret Dailey, Worthington and several nieces and nephews.

Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Pamela Sue; one brother, Donald Hart in WWII on the last day of the war and one sister, Beulah Nolting.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at visitation.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation for a time of reflection at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, on Monday, Jan. 16 from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 17 at 9 a.m.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 17 at 10:30 a.m. with Warren Shake officiating. An intimate internment service will be held at Sugarland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Nathan Hardesty.

The family has entrusted Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, with all funeral arrangements.
