Melvin Ray Strahla, 75, of Linton, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 in Regional Hospital, Terre Haute.

He was born March 30, 1936 in Brazil to Herschel Strahla and Sesna (Kent) Strahla.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. (Hubbell) Strahla of Linton, whom he married on March 4, 1961; brother, Paul Strahla of Rockwell, Texas; uncle, Sherman Strahla and Ruth of Greenwood; mother-in-law, Iva Hubbell of Jasonville; brother-in-law, John Hubbell and Sue of Jasonville; nieces and nephews, Donna Lynn Bown, Mary Alice Wells, Sherry McQueary and Kent, Jon Ray Hubbell and Regina Axe, Michael Hubbell and Stacey; several great nieces and nephews; one great-great-nephew; several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Melvin was a member of the Coalmont High School Class of 1954. He was retired from the Peabody Coal Company-Hawthorn Mine. He was a member of the UMWA Local 1410 and the Linton Elks Lodge 866. He served in the US Army National Guard.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville with visitation scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday and noon until service time Sunday. Funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Kemp officiating.

Interment will be at the Peavey Cemetery in Howesville.
