Born in Sandborn, on Nov. 26, 1934, he was the son of William L. Sr. and Ruth (Pierson) Gentry. On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Joyce Ann (Anderson) Gentry, who survives.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later worked for Crane Army Ammunition Activity as a machinist/supervisor. Bill was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Gentry; two sons: Rick (Diane) Gentry of Sullivan, and Dennis (Kelly) Gentry of Linton; one daughter Lori L. (Barry) Tedrow of Alfordsville; nine grandchildren: Nickie, Cory, and Jennifer Gentry, Stephanie Parola, Logan Tedrow, Ross and Avery Gentry, Cameron and Camille Fuqua; great-grandchildren: Romeo, Miley, Rylee, Cordell and Zoey; three brothers: Garland Gentry of Linton, Robert 'Bob' (Mary) Gentry of Columbus, and John L. 'Jack' (Marilyn) Gentry of Bloomington; and one sister Dorothy Stremming of Westphalia.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Catherine L. Clifford, Marjorie H. Bell, and Miriam A. Byers, and one brother, Cecil L. Gentry.
Funeral service will be at the Bethel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, with Dr. Doug Cassel officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22. Calling will resume on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. The family has requested memorial Contributions be made to IU Health Hospice, Bloomington or WYTJ Radio (A ministry of Bethel Baptist Church) Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
