It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of M. "Duane" Smith, age 59, of Bloomfield, Ind., on March 26, 2012.
Born in Anderson, Ind. on Sept. 6, 1952 to the late Paul Marvin Smith and the late Reva (Brown) Smith, he was raised in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1970 and Vincennes University, specializing in title insurance. Duane spent his entire professional life in the title insurance business. Duane also was the founding father and active chairman at "drink deeply" Walnut Grove Spring Water Company, WGSW Co. and Persimmon Valley Farms. Duane was an avid sailor in the Newport Beach, Ca. Harbor and a Duffy boat afficianado and a "scratch" golfer.
Duane is survived by his soul-mate and wife, Leslie Smith; a step daughter, Natalie Smith, Newport Beach, Ca.; three daughters, Shannon Smith, Dallas, TX, Lindsay Smith, Bloomington, Ind., Aubree Smith, Bloomington, Ind.; three sisters; JoDell (David) Callahan, Fairmount, Ind., Catherine Smith, Williamsburg, N.M. and Kim Smith, Fairmount, Ind.; one brother; C. Bret Smith, Bloomington, Ind.; two nephews; Zach Callahan and Jai Johnston; a niece Georgia Coronado; Aunt Kay Harris; and Uncle Larry Smith,
Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, Ind. Funeral service is Saturday, March 31, at 11:11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Garra officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday, March 30 from 3-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Duane's wife is requesting contributions be made to the Aubrey Smith Fund (Duane's middle daughter) in care of German American Bank, C/O Mark Franklin, Bloomington, IN or at the funeral home.
