Church asks for neighbors to be aware of suspicious persons

To the Editor:

Dear friends and neighbors,

I'm writing to vent anger felt about thieves stealing from the church.

This past Tuesday we were preparing our new weedeater and gasoline for the mowing crew at our church and cemetery and when we arrived we seen that once again we had been robbed of the weedeaters and gasoline, and there was damage to our buildings from the break-in.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department was called and came quickly, which we appreciate, but there is not a lot that can be done after the crime. I am calling on all honest people to be on watch east of Carlisle, six or seven miles, for persons at the Indian Prairie Baptist Church and yard that may look suspicious. Please report them to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.

"Vengeance is mine sayeth The Lord." I feel like the Apostle Paul in the Bible when he talks about a coppersmith who did him harm, "May God reward them for their deeds."

If they would have asked we would have come weeded for them. The weedeater's brand name was Stihl, so I guess the thieves took that literally.

The serial number on the weedeater is 284611282 Stihl FS90

Obama requests no more funding for CASA

To the Editor:

As a strong supporter of Greene County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), I am shocked and appalled by President Obama's decision to request no funding for the CASA programs.

This affects national, state, and local CASA programs, and more importantly, the abused or neglected children in all these programs. We need the support of our senators, congressman and women, and state representatives plus you, the reader, and all the elected officials of Greene County to write, call, go see, whatever it takes to get President Obama to realize this is a need that cannot be cut or reduced or, as he is suggesting by no funding, done away with.

Our future is our children and we must do all we can to help the less fortunate ones to realize somebody out there cares and cares enough to fight for them, if need be now. We need to watch how our elected officials vote on this issue. If they don't care about the less fortunate young children, what makes you think they care about the rest of us?
