Thank you Greene County community

To the Editor:

Growing up in Bloomfield, I've always had a very special place in my heart for this area. The culture, variety, and beauty are just top notch, but it's the community that sets it apart.

The people of Greene County are constantly pleasantly surprising me. This exemplified itself today (April 22) at the bake sale we held at the Bloomington Walmart. Sure, it was a fundraiser for COTA in honor of Ian Laster and there were an abundance of adorable children. There was also an "Ian Aide" lemonade stand and three of the most diligent young girls I've met. All of these things helped but it was the community that decided to participate, partake and contribute.

There were many very generous contributions from complete strangers. There were donations of baked goods that were enough to stock four tables for an entire day. There were friends and families who stopped by to show their support.

I want to thank the Greene County community for perpetuating such high moral values. I'd like to thank Bloomington Walmart and its employees for allowing us to use their space. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the amazing individuals throughout Greene County and the surrounding counties who baked goods and helped throughout the day.

Most of all I'd like to thank the patrons who reminded us many times throughout the day that there are still people out there with pure hearts of gold. It's because of the community coming together that we were able to raise $2,103.06 for COTA in honor of Ian Laster, to assist with transplant-related expenses.

Ian, born with Stage 4 kidney failure, sure has a journey ahead of him, but I am confident that in this community with these great people we can raise the amount needed to get him the new kidney he needs. We will have more events in the future and welcome any volunteers who would be interested in getting involved.

Anyone interested in helping in any way may email IanAide55@gmail.com or call me at (812) 699-1176. For more information, go to www.COTAforIanL.com .
