He was born March 27, 1928, in Linton, the son of Frank and Ruth (Rollins) Carpenter.
Dale worked many hard years as a farmer with his wife working by his side. He attended Sassafras School and was a graduate of Switz City Central High School. He enjoyed many summers in Canada and winters in Florida, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and attended the Linton First United Methodist Church for several years. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #866 in Linton. He also served many years as president of the Greene County Drainage Board and maintained Sassafras Water Company.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, whom he married Feb. 5, 1950, Gloria Mae (Hamner) Carpenter; two sons, Bill (Diane) Carpenter and Danny (Teresa) Carpenter, both of Linton; three grandsons, Steve (Chantel) Carpenter, Mike Carpenter, and Eric (D'Lee) Carpenter; two granddaughters, Brandy (Clayton) Kohlman and Danielle (Brett) Feltner; eight great-grandchildren, Trent, Trey, Whitney, and Dalton Carpenter, Graysun and Amasa Kohlman, and Hayden and Avery Feltner; and a sister, Norma (John) Stuller of Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Wayne Carpenter; and a brother-in-law, Charles Hamner.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in rural Lyons.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m. with an Elks Memorial Service at 7 p.m., and visitation will continue Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
