Born Oct. 23, 1957 in Linton, he was the son of Elmer Van and Marquita (Fox) Oliphant.
Jim started work for the Bloomfield State Bank in 1980. He was the South Branch manager at the time of his passing. He was a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church, served on the Bloomfield Town Council for 5 1/2 years, the Greene County Council for 12 years and the Greene County General Hospital Board of Directors for 12 years. He was a member of the Bloomfield Lions Club for over 30 years.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Karen S. Oliphant of Bloomfield; two sons, Owen Neil Oliphant and Joel B. Oliphant both of Bloomfield; one daughter, Jaimie Spicer of Bloomfield; his mother, Marquita Oliphant of Bloomfield; one sister, Connie Anderson of Bloomfield; one brother, Scott Oliphant of Bloomfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Van Oliphant and one brother, William C. "Bill" Oliphant.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Jim Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and one hour prior to service Saturday at the funeral home.
