Barbara Lois was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Lawrence County, Ind., the daughter of Harry R. and Audrey F. (Hutchens) Henderson.
She was raised and attended school in Owensburg, Ind., and graduated from Bloomington High School.
Barbara and Loran Parrish were united in marriage in Indiana on March 3, 1946. To this union, two children were born. The couple were married over 50 years until his death on Nov. 1, 1999.
Barbara worked in numerous places throughout her life. She worked in a Woolworth Department Store in Independence, Mo., at a Sioux City, Iowa hospital in the dietary department, and at Zenith Manufacturing in Sioux City from 1969 until its closing. Her main job, though, was taking care of her family and home.
Barbara and Loran retired to Whiting, Iowa in 1963, where she was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC of Whiting and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed puzzles, playing cards, and playing computer games.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Linda (Marshall) Lloyd of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Harry (Brenda) of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Gwaltney of Prattville, Ala.; three brothers, Frank (Elizabeth) Henderson of Martinsville, Ind., Robert (JoAnna) Henderson of Bloomfield, Wayne (Irmgard) Henderson of Sterling, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Loran; and three brothers, Paul, Jerry, and David.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
