Born Sept. 27, 1919 in Highland Township in Greene County, he was the son of Joseph Tilman and Effie Kathleen (Willems) Sharr.
On April 12, 1941, Tilman married Marjorie Maxine Watkins.
He drove a school bus for Bloomfield schools and was a farmer. He served his country in World War II in the 781st Tank Battalion of the United Sates Army.
Surviving relatives include: four daughters, Ethel Kathleen (Wayne) Workman of Solsberry, Sandra June (Garry) Ingram of Spencer, Trena Arlene (Perry) Gater of Bloomfield and Karen Gaye Sharr of Spencer; 10 grandchildren, Dennis Workman, Tracey Wagner, Jerry Ingram, Andy Ingram, Jim Ingram, Amy Bair, Niki Wilson, Lisa McKee, Carrie Sparks and Shannon Sparks; 25 great-grandchildren; one great, great, grandchild; and a sister, Beulah Thompson of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Maxine Sharr on May 27, 2012; one sister, Bernice Tolley; five brothers, Austin, Lloyd, Richard, Mente and infant Charles Theo, and two grandsons, David Gater and Randy Workman.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Pastor Paul McHenry and Becky McHenry officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday and one-hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Newark Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
