Sullivan, Faulk highlight 4-H Fair livestock shows

Electrical power was out Wednesday evening on the lower part of the fairgrounds, silencing the barn and show ring cooling fans.

The outage, about 6:30 p.m.,, caused the 4-H Swine Show to be delayed about an hour while repair crews remedied the problem.

"Power was out for about an hour. It was one of the large fuses up by the (community) building. I am unaware of any other heat-related problems with the animals," Lori Brown, president of 4-H Clubs of Greene County commented on the third day of the fair that has been under a heat advisory.

After crews from the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC restored power, the swine show went on as planned.

Harlee Sullivan, a 7th grade student at Bloomfield Junior-Senior High School, exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog.

Shayden Flynn was awarded the Grand Champion Gilt for her swine entry.

Randi Jo Faulk, a 10-year 4-H member from Worthington, dominated the 4-H Sheep Show on Monday night with the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb.

Faulk was also the first place winner in the Expert showmanship class.

Adam Dean as first in rate of gain with 69 pounds, followed by Wesley Wollam with second and third places at 62 pounds and 61 pounds for two separate lamb entries.

Harlee Sullivan had the overall Supreme Ewe and Adam Dean exhibited the Reserve Supreme Ewe.

Other showmanship winners in the Tuesday night show included: First Year -- Taylor Whitfield; Junior -- Turner Royal; Intermediate -- Mikayla Huber; and Senior -- Whitney Carpenter.

Elsewhere at the fair this week, the 4-H Rabbit Show that was staged on Wednesday morning, Jesse McDonald of Switz City exhibited the Best of Show for her Mini-Rex and Nicole Mattox, of Bloomfield, was the Reserve Best of Show for her Checkered Giant entry.

Jesse McDonald had the Grand Champion in the 4-Class, with Samantha Ross exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion.

In the 6-Class, Nicole Mattox was the Grand Champion for her Checkered Giant rabbit with Megan Mattox the Reserve Grand Champion for her French Lop entry.

Showmanship winners included: Novice -- Blake Burch; Junior -- Wyatt Hasler; Intermediate -- Rachel Hasler; and Expert -- Chelsea Hineman.
