He was born Sept. 29, 1927 in Worthington, to Clarren and Mary (Meiring) Benjamin.
He was a dentist in Worthington for more than 50 years, graduating from I. U. School of Dentistry in 1952 and a B. S from Purdue in 1948. He was in the U. S. Public Health Service, and did research at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. He was a former member of the Indiana State Board of Dental Examiners, serving as president 1999 to 2000 and formerly on the board of directors of Peoples Trust Bank in Linton. He was a member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthington, serving on the board of trustees for several years, also Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at Purdue and Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity I.U., Elks in Linton, Masonic Lodge in Worthington.
Ed is survived by his wife, Susan (Schloot) Benjamin, who he married in 1951; three children, Jill (Jerrill) Vandeventer, Jasper; Jim (Mary Conway) Benjamin, Columbus; Dr. Scott (Kelly Cisewski) Benjamin, Columbus; nine grandchildren, Tyler (Tiffany) Vandeventer, Tory (Jordan) Pearman, Tara (Tim) Vickers, Chris, Nate, Noah, Kane, Kota and Keagan Benjamin; three great-grandchildren, Rhett, Gram & Marina.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Terry Marker officiating.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
