Dorothy L. Benjamin, 74, of Washington, devoted mother and angel, passed away at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday.
Born Jan. 25, 1938, in Martin County, she was the daughter of William and Hazel (Todd) Craney.
She had worked at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane for 20 years. A member of St. Martin Catholic Church, she was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Store. She was a wonderful, strong, loving individual who took the time to help others in need, lend an ear and be a shoulder to cry on. She was full of wisdom and always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers and numerous friends.
She is survived by five sons, William W. Benjamin Jr. and wife Linda of North Carolina, Doug Benjamin of Odon, Nicholas Benjamin and friend Lou of Indianapolis, Samuel Benjamin and wife Robin of Indianapolis, and Scott "Chopper" Benjamin of Washington; four daughters, Cynthia Hartman and husband Dwight of Madison, Tenn., Christina Fines and husband Larry of Switz City, Susan Cain and husband Kyle of Uhland, Texas, and Kimberly Hicks and husband Joey of Bedford; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Frye, Helen Trowbridge, Bernadette Abel and Margaret Fegan; and a brother, Eddie Craney. Her husband, William Benjamin Sr., is deceased. Also preceding her in death are her parents; a daughter, Julia Ann Benjamin; a sister, Marie Arvin; and brothers, Donald, Tommy and Leo Craney.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, with Rev. Erbacher officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel.
