She was born on Sept. 21, 1920 in Terre Haute to John and Cora Gustin. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother loved to cook and enjoyed family gathering. On Aug. 19, 1991 she gave her heart to Jesus. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, and attended Faithway Bible Church in Worthington.
Alverna is survived by four children, Karen and Linda Hooker of Terre Haute, William (Bill) Hooker Jr. and wife Melissa of Linton, Debbie Grayless and husband Ed of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Tiffany Trout and husband Tommy of Terre Haute, William Hooker III of Linton, Megan Grayless of Terre Haute, and Kimberly Birchman and husband Mike of Coatsville, lnd., and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Gene) Hooker Sr. whom she married May 17, 1947 and they were together 49 years before his death in 1996. Also her parents, and one sister Helen Hooker.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. Funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Terry Dowell officiating. Burial will follow at Durham Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Southern Care Hospice, Intrepid Home Health Care and Dr. Gary Fitzgerald for all their support and excellent care.
