The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners made quick work of visiting Bloomfield in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference volleyball match Monday night.

In what was essentially a battle for second place in the conference behind leader Eastern Greene, the Lady Miners took control of the match late in the first set and never took their foot off the gas on their way to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-12 win.

"I'm super proud of the girls because we didn't play our best volleyball last week, sometimes you have those weeks," Linton-Stockton (14-11, 6-1) coach Jill Fougerousse said. "We came back and Monday games are always hard to play. I thought wee executed our game plan nicely and I'm proud of them for that."

Lady Cardinal coach Susie Schulte was so frustrated with the outcome and the play of her team that she decided not to comment on the match.

"I was surprised," Fougerousse said referring to the poor play of her opponents. "I expected a tighter outcome and a lot more tonight, I'm super happy we didn't have to play more than three sets with them.

"But like everyone else, we know they'll be gunning for us at the sectional."

Bloomfield (10-12, 6-2) managed to close the gap to 14-12 midway through the first set before the Lady Miners took control with a 4-1 run at the end.

From there it was all Linton-Stockton as the Lady Cardinals struggled to find any consistent play at the net.

Led by Macy Fidler's 12 kills, Linton-Stockton continued to hammer home points as they built a 9-3 lead in the second set that never dipped below seven points.

Set three was even more frustrating for the Lady Cardinals as their unkind hosts quickly worked themselves into a 14-5 advantage.

Bloomfield's top hitter, Tiffany Lachance was held to just six total kills. That combined with missed digs and quick play at the net from the Lady Miners duo of Brianne Karazsia and Courtney Johnson, left little doubt about the final results.

"That's what we need to and we need to be strategic with our serving," Fougerousse said. "The girls did that so we got the win."

Fougerousse praised both Fougerousse and Johnson for their efforts.

"Brianne had a great night at the net," the coach said. "She didn't necessarily get a lot of blocks but she touched the ball a lot, her and Macy (Fidler) were a nice combination."

She went on to say that Johnson overcame some would-be struggled hitting the ball.

"She kept her composure," Fougerousse noted. "She didn't make a lot of errors when she went to hit the ball.

"That's something I like to see from her, only one error in 13 attempts, so that's nice on her part."

The Lady Miner junior varsity match went to the Lady Cardinals 25-22, 25-19.

Linton-Stockton will play Tuesday at Edgewood.

Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday at Lighthouse Christian in a varsity-only match, starting at 7 p.m.
