Shakamak State Park to host Halloween events

Monday, October 8, 2012

The annual Fall Halloween Festival at Shakamak State Park will be kicking off on Friday night, Oct. 19 with a two-day schedule of events to keep campers, visitors, and especially young "trick or treaters" entertained.

The fun begins Oct. 19 at the park's pool shelter with the always popular Haunted House brought to you by Casey's General Store. The Haunted House begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at 10:30 p.m. This haunted house may not be suitable for the youngest of princesses, superheroes, or goblins, but a kid friendly waiting area for the little ones is available and they can get a fun balloon animal.

Everyone is sure to have a good time. If you can't make the Friday night Haunted House, it returns on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the same time and location.

Everyone is invited to attend.

On Oct. 20 the Halloween activities begin at 10:30 a.m. with the always entertaining Halloween Egg hunt at the pool shelter. Be sure to bring along your camera and catch all the fun forever. Costumes are always encouraged.

At 11 a.m., there is a family scavenger hunt that will test your sleuthing abilities and require cooperative team effort. This is truly fun for the whole family.

The pool shelter is also the site of three Bounce Houses for children. This year there will be three houses in operation from 3 to 6 p.m. Hayrides in the park will follow park roads from the campground to the pool shelter house. Hayrides begin at 4 p.m. and conclude about 10:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your best Halloween costume for the annual costume contest on the pool overlook deck.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. all children in costume will be entered and awarded prizes by category for the costumes. All types of costumes are welcome.

The campground is the site of two holiday activities for both children and adult campers. Campers are encouraged to decorate their campsites for the entire weekend, and they will then be automatically entered in the campsite contest for best decorated site. Judging will be at 7:30 on Saturday evening.

Trick or treating will begin in the class A campground at 7:30 that evening as well.

Dust off your best Halloween costume and join us for some great family fun at Shakamak State Park.
