BEDFORD -- Two Bloomfield runners and one from Eastern Greene finished in the top 15 at the Bedford North Lawrence boys and girls cross country sectionals here Tuesday night.

Hannah Resler of Eastern Greene was seventh in the girls race, Alli Workman of Bloomfield ran 11th and Parker Ramsey was 14th in the boys event as all three qualified for Saturday's regional, which also will take place at the hilly BNL course.

Both Eastern Greene and Bloomfield finished out of the top five in the boys and girls team standings and failed to advance out of the sectional.

Resler finished the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes and 16 seconds.

Workman, who ran as high as fifth, crossed the finish line four spots and 28 seconds behind Resler.

"I am just thrilled," said Resler, who defeated Workman for the first time this season. "I am really stoked.

"I was really hoping the team would make it out, but I just went out and ran a pretty good race. My personal best was 20:10 and I think I ran 20:16. I knew I was going to have to run near a PR to get out."

Workman, a freshman, had enough gas in the tank to qualify for her first regional.

"I wasn't feeling very strong the last half of the race," said Workman. "I think I went out too fast.

"But I was able to finish in the top 15 and earn a spot at the regional. I know I am going to have to run a lot smarter and better race on Saturday."

In the boys competition, Ramsey was as far back as 20th before he rallied to finish in the top 15. Boys times were not available.

"He just gutted it out," said BHS coach Caleb Dunkerly. "He just came over here and got the job done today.

"I was proud of both teams, especially Alli and Parker."

Ramsey said he ran a patient race.

"I started out slowly, but that's the way I normally run," said the freshman. "But I was able to finish strong.

"I knew there was a pack of (Bloomington) North runners on my tail. I could hear them talk. I just kept running hard and stayed in front of them."

Eastern Greene girls coach Brian Shepherd said that Resler ran a very good race, but he was hoping the entire team would qualify for the regional.

"We had been aiming for this all year, but just came up short," said Shepherd. "This is a very competitive sectional."

EGHS boys coach Ray Hausler said that Justin Tatum would be their best hope to advance. He placed 29th.

"We just wanted the boys to come over here and shoot for PRs (personal records). I was proud of the way the boys competed all season."

The girls race will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the boys race to follow at approximately 11:10 a.m. The top five teams and top 15 individuals will qualify for the semistate, which will be at Brown County on Saturday, Oct. 27.
