Wednesday, October 10, 2012

The Linton-Stockton junior varsity football team wrapped up a perfect 7-0 season with a 58-0 win over Northview Monday night.

Austin Hale rushed for a game-high 151 yards on 10 carries and quarterback Zach Phegley was 6 for 10 for 111 yards.

Hale rushed for a 30-yard TD and a 51 yard score as well as a 3 yarder that was setup by an interception from Joe Diebol.

Pierce Jackson added a 12 yard TD run while Mitch Eberhardt scored on a 9 yard and connected with Beau Eaton on a halfback pass for another 45 yard score.

Eaton added two more scores when he hauled in a Phegley 19 yarder and a 22 yarder. He also intercepted a Northview pass to set up one score.

Linton-Stockton also got a 21 yard scoring strike as Chad Trent found Curtis Cox open.

Two players -- Zach Riddell and Jace Herndon -- both led the Miners with nine tackles.

Defensively the Miners close out the year outscoring opponents 353-14.

"This was a great JV season," coach Brian Oliver said. "The kids kept getting better throughout the year, they did a great job."

He credited defensive coordinator Mark Gennicks for calling a great defense.

"The defense played really well," Oliver said. "I'm proud of them."
