Class 2A No. 4 Eastern Greene rang up victory No. 30, against two losses, after defeating host Shoals 25-13, 25-12, 25-10 in a non-conference high school volleyball match Wednesday night.
It is the fourth year in a row the Lady Thunderbirds have won at least 30 matches.
"We started out a little slow in each set, but they pulled it out," said Eastern Greene coach Gina Ingram. "We finished the way I like to see us finish.
"Overall, it was a fairly consistent effort and it was a very well spread out match."
Ingram said that Kelsey Fleener (14 points and one ace), Leanna Bailey (13 points and three aces) and Casie Divine (eight points and two aces) all served well.
"We had just one service error," said Ingram. "I don't think Fleener missed one spot, which was outstanding for a freshman. Casie hit every zone.
"We have been working on our zone serving. We focused on that tonight and did a good job."
Shoals won the junior varsity contest in three.
Eastern Greene is scheduled to conclude the regular season Thursday at Monrovia.
The three-time defending Class 2A Sectional champions will begin the sectional at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 when they face North Central at home.
