Thunderbirds falter at Tecumseh
Eastern Greene concluded the regular season with a 47-31 loss at Tecumseh in a non-conference high school football game at Lynnville Friday night.
The Thunderbirds, who dropped to 5-4, had leads through the first half.
"We came out and got a turnover right off the bat and went down and scored and led 7-0," said Eastern Greene coach Luke Dean. "We were feeling pretty good about ourselves at that point.
"But we threw a pick six and thing started going South on us. We just did not make the plays on both sides of the ball like we have been making lately. We had some opportunities but did not convert them."
On offense, Briar Martindale completed 12 of 28 passes for 184 yards.
He threw three TDs (a 35-yard to Skye Jones, 25- and 37-yard scoring passes to Logan Frye) and one interception.
Frye caught four passes for 78 yards.
Jones, who hauled in a 35-yard option pass from Frye, finished with three catches for 77 yards.
Carter Divine (20 yards) and Cody Hopkins (15) each had two receptions for a combined 35 yards.
Jake Johnson caught on pass for 23 yards and Jarred Groomer had one reception for six yards.
Groomer had 27-yard run and Frye booted the extra point as the Thunderbirds led 7-0 with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter.
Groomer was limited to 32 yards total on 15 attempts.
Martindale rushed seven times for 32 yards and Hopkins had one carry for minus one yard.
The Thunderbirds will open play in Class A Sectional 40 Friday, Oct. 19 at Perry Central. Game time has not yet been announced.
