Lady T-Birds drop opener

Monday, November 12, 2012

Heritage Hills outscored Eastern Greene by 14 points in the second half as the host Lady Patriots defeated Eastern Greene 37-22, spoiling the season-opener for the Lady Thunderbirds in a high school girls

basketball game Saturday.

"The girls got after it. This was a great effort," said EGHS coach Zack Stevens. "There were numerous times where we had all five girls on the floor after a loose ball, compared to one or two for them. We had a lot of effort and intensity."

Eastern Greene led 7-4 after the first quarter but trailed 13-12 at intermission.

The Lady Patriots outscored the visitors 24-10 over the final 16 minutes.

"We were passing up shots on the offensive end," said Stevens. "We have to get scoring from all five girls on the floor.

"This was just our first game, so we still have a lot of room for improvement."

Heritage Hills also won the junior varsity game 19-16.

The Lady Thunderbirds will play a varsity-only game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dugger against Union.
