She was born Oct. 18, 1932 in Charleston, Ill., the daughter of Doyle and Olive (Baughman) Young.
She graduated from Charleston High School and married Robert G. Waters on Oct. 29, 1950. They lived in Mulberry, Ind., where she worked for the Mulberry Reporter Newspaper and later as office manager for the local doctor. After moving to Muncie, she worked for Dr. Stibbens until they moved to Fort Wayne. Surprisingly, while in Muncie, she first learned how to drive and got her driver's license. While in Fort Wayne, she volunteered at the American Red Cross. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.
After Bob retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad, they moved to Linton and built a house on a lake near the state forest where she enjoyed the birds and animals that visited their home.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Waters of Linton, one son, Robert (Marcia) Waters of Linton, two daughters, Rebecca Garringer of Muncie and Beth (Carl Cooper) Waters of Muncie, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at Shiloh Cemetery in Lerna, Ill., at 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time, on Fri., Nov. 16.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, Nov. 16 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Community Food Pantry or the Linton Rotary Club Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
