This year's Holiday Open House and Voices for Kids will be at the Greene County Courthouse on Friday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m to 4 p.m.
It will take place on the first floor.
Voices for Kids is an organization that steps in to help families with Children in Need of Services (CHINS). Once a child becomes involved with the state, they are assigned a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Voices for Kids works with CASA to make sure that all of their basic needs are fulfilled and to give them opportunities that they may not have had otherwise. These opportunities can rage from going to different camps, providing individual school tutoring, clothing, personal items, and in some cases food needs.
Santa Claus will make an appearance at the event from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. to listen to all of the Christmas wishes of the children who come to visit him. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring their cameras as Santa Claus will also be posing for pictures with those who visit.
Many local school choirs will be there to sing Christmas Carols throughout the day and show their support for the Voices for Kids program. Refreshments and goodies will be there to enjoy, and you will get an opportunity to see the courthouses' Christmas trees and decorations.
Donations for the silent auction are collected up until the day before the auction. The auction will take place from 8 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
Some of the items that have already been donated include an original painting, restaurant coupons, and theme baskets of goodies. The goal is to raise more money than the previous year, and hope to raise between $1,500 and $2,000 in this year's silent auction.
"Last year we had a wonderful turnout of business and individual donations and supporters - along with extremely generous auction bidders," commented CASA advocate Katie Stingley.
Voices for Kids is also a 501 C 3, meaning that all items are tax deductible.
