ELNORA -- The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners found themselves down 12-0 after one quarter on their way to a 33-18 loss at the hands of Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference rival North Daviess here Thursday night.

It didn't take long for Lady Miners (0-3, 0-1) coach Brad McKinney to point out way he believes his team has struggled so far this year.

"We got physically manhandled tonight," McKinney said. "Their guards were more physical than we were, their post players were more physical. They physically beat on us."

McKinney said it's becoming a continuation of last year's struggles and it's also something they have got to correct.

"Until we prove that we can handle that, until we prove we can take on and eliminate that, that's on the scouting report by other teams," he said. "Get in there and get on them and we've got to prove we can handle it."

The manhandling by the host Lady Cougars translated into the aforementioned 12-0 first quarter, a 21-8 margin at the half and a 24-12 gap after three quarters.

"Even as bad as we were playing we weren't getting buried," McKinney said. "There was no knockout punch that was delivered to us -- we're better than that and we need to start believing that."

It also led to a whopping 27 L-S turnovers and a North Daviess rebounding edge of 33-22.

"That's part of the whole game plan against us," McKinney said. "Get on them and they'll turn the ball over."

For the Lady Miners it amounted to another night searching for an offensive identity -- other than the one McKinney's team seems to be mired in currently.

"We're going to have to use the physicalness and the aggressiveness by the other team against them," McKinney said. "We're going to have to get lower than them and drive by them."

While the offense might be the marquee low point of the year right now, the defense is something McKinney has taken pride in so far this year.

"Defense wasn't that bad," McKinney said. "We can probably live with giving 33 points up, we've got to put some points on the board."

Thursday's contest also saw the Lady Miners fail to have a double-digit scorer.

Mercedes Shafford finished the game with six points while Joie Gadberry added five points, five rebounds, five steals and one block.

The Lady Miners got three points each from Courtney Johnson and Carlie Booe while point guard Brilee Parker added one.

The junior varsity game also went the way of the Lady Cougars. This time by a 30-3 score as Carlie Williams led scored two points and Avaree Dunn one.

The Lady Miners return to action Tuesday when they host South Knox in a non-conference tilt at 6 p.m.

After so many years of this you would think that they would see something isn't working with this program and do something better. OH MAN what am I thinking, THIS ISN'T FOOTBALL

what does this have to do with Miner Football? Btw...The girls team won a sectional just a few years back. It's a down cycle...hopefully they will improve as the year goes on...
