He retired after working as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of American Legion Post #22 of Linton and of the Linton Moose Lodge where he was a former governor. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia R. (Davis) Elgan, to whom he was married March 8, 1944; a son, Steven L. (Kay) Elgan of Muncie; a daughter, Chris (Wayne) McCammon of Linton; two grandsons, Eric and Erin Elgan; two step-grandsons, Brad and Mike Wilson; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by five sisters amd six brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Pastor Darren McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton. The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Monday prior to the hour of the service.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital through the funeral home.
