Don R. Shonk, 72, of Linton, passed away at 4:24 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
He was born May 18, 1940, in Linton, the son of Rex and Julia (Swan) Shonk.
He was retired after working at the Minnehaha Coal Mine and was a member of United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of American Legion Post #22 & VFW Post #7118, both of Linton and was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jane E. (Reed) Shonk, to whom he was married Aug. 15, 1994; two daughters, Tamra and Lisa; a step-daughter, Kathy (Bill) Drogich of Linton; a brother, Rick (Linda) Shonk of Linton; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents and a sister, Marlene Walton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.Thursday until the hour of the service.
