Lady Lakers lose at home

Edgewood controlled the first half and went on to a 49-34 victory over host Shakamak in a non-conference high school girls basketball game Saturday afternoon at Jasonville.

Edgewood (6-3) led 14-4 after the first quarter and pushed its advantage to 27-14 at the half.

Vanessa Brown led the winners with 16 points. Karly Thornton tossed in 12.

Shakamak was led by senior center Kelsey Pilant, who made 7 of 17 shots and tallied 16 points. She also had six rebounds and one blocked shot.

Megan Phipps hit a 3-pointer and tallied seven points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Kelsey Fulford had five points, three rebounds and three assists and Sierra Hudson finished with four points.

Jeri Beck added five rebounds, four assists, one block and two points. Kierra Samm grabbed one rebound.

The Lady Lakers (2-7) return to action Tuesday when they play at Sullivan.
