BHS loses road game

Saturday, December 8, 2012

Class A No. 4 Barr-Reeve forged ahead in the second half as the Lady Vikings defeated visiting Bloomfield 43-30 Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Vikings, who outscored the Lady Cards 15-6 in the third quarter, improved to 6-1.

"It was the same story, different game," said Bloomfield High School girls basketball coach Chris Hitchcock. "We continue to be very up and down.

"We played well in the first quarter and actually pretty well in the second quarter too. We were just down two at the half. But we are struggling to put the ball in the basket. We miss breakaway layups and easy shots. They outscored by nine points in the third quarter, which was the difference in the game. We haven't been able to overcome having a bad quarter."

Elena Weddle paced Bloomfield, who only scored in double figures in one quarter, with 13 points.

"The bottom line is we have to hit shots," said Hitchcock. "We also have to hit free throws. We have to make shots if we want to see a successful season."

Bloomfield dominated the junior varsity game, winning 48-18.

The Lady Cardinals (3-5) will host White River Valley in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference contest Tuesday.

"I am still very optimistic," said Hitchcock. "We have been winning our jv games and playing a lot of young kids.

"We have been competitive, but just have to find a way to overcome ourselves. I know will we start to see some wins and I am positive we will turn it around."
