It's finally official. The Linton-Stockton Miner football team is dropping out of the Southwest Seven Conference.

According to Miner athletic director Charlie Karazsia, the Miners will be dropping Union in week eight as part of the move to improve their schedule.

The Miners have added traditional Class A powerhouse Sheridan to replace the Bulldogs.

"We have officially signed a two-year contract with Sheridan," Karazsia said by telephone Tuesday night. "We will go up there next year and then they will come down here in 2014.

"We hope to sign them to another two-year deal."

Also the Miners will be part of the Western Indiana Conference day in Lucas Oil Stadium in September when their game in week four with West Vigo will be played in Indianapolis.

Kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 14 is set for 6:30 p.m.

This is a great move for Miner football.

This is great. Only about 5 to 10 years too late!

Linton pushed for the SW7. A conference they could dominate.

Linton has mad many great football teams. It is too bad it has taken some shortcomings to "beef" up a schedule. Losing a game during the regular season is ok, if it makes you a better team down the road.

Maybe, finally, this is some steps in the right direction.

We shall see.
