Lady Lakers fall at Sullivan

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Class 2A No. 9 Sullivan jumped out to a 22-5 lead and cruised to a 72-31 victory over visiting Shakamak in a non-conference high school girls basketball game Tuesday night.

The Lady Arrows improved to 7-2 while the Lady Lakers slipped to 2-8.

"Those four seniors have been at Sullivan for a while and that is a pretty special group," said Shakamak coach Troy Fougerousse. "We just got a good old fashioned butt kicking from them tonight.

"We had a really hard time with turnovers, which was our biggest downfall tonight. Our turnovers led to a lot of easy baskets for them."

Indiana State recruit Rhagen Smith led the winners with 28. Caelan Jones added 21.

Shakamak got 10 points from Kelsey Pilant and nine from Megan Phipps.

Kim Kaho scored six points for Shakamak, who lost to Sullivan 39-17 in the junior varsity game.

The Lady Lakers will host Linton-Stockton Thursday.

"It is obviously hard to take anything positive away from a 41-point loss," said Fougerousse. "But we've got to move on and get ready and focused for Linton on Thursday night."
