Friends of Goose Pond sell calendars for fund raiser

Friday, December 14, 2012

The Friends of Goose Pond have the 2013 calendar on sale in order to raise funds for the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area (FWA).

"Calendar sales have been steady, to slightly dropping off, but it's still a good fundraiser," Friends of Goose Pond president Tom Ciskowski said.

The calendars are $10 each, and feature photographs depicting different aspects of Goose Pond. The calendars are available at the Department of Natural Resources office at Goose Pond from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday, at Main Street Gifts in Linton or by email at mail@friendsofgoosepond.org .

Ciskowski noted the calendars can also be purchased from any Friends of Goose Pond Board member or online at www.friendsofgoosepond.org .

"Every summer we have a photo contest for pictures of Goose Pond. People sub their photos and we select winners for the calendar," Ciskowski explained.

"The photos, even though they are taken by amateurs are just fantastic photos. They depict all kinds of wildlife and various scenes around the marsh."

The photos consist of scenic shots of the Goose Pond from every season, as well as photos of animals and birds at the Fish and Wildlife Area.

The proceeds raised from the calendars will be used in the creation of a Visitor's Center in the Goose Pond FWA.

There was a groundbreaking ceremony in September to mark the future spot for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Southwest Regional Office/Visitor's Center at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area.

"We want to expand the Visitor's Center, which would increase the tourism coming through Greene County, which would be very good for Greene County," Ciskowski said previously.

I ordered mine from the website and received it promptly.

It's very nice with great photographs.
