Linton man arrested for battery on Christmas Day

The Greene County Sheriff's Department's jail log only listed one arrest on Christmas Day -- a Linton man accused of yelling and screaming, damaging a Christmas tree, ornaments and food and allegedly battering two other people.

Joseph Franklin Ball, 33, was arrested by Sgt. Chad Crynes of the Linton Police Department after Crynes was dispatched to a residence around 3 p.m. Tuesday. A caller said Ball was damaging the residence and a battery had occurred.

The officer reported the residence was in disarray when he arrived -- a Christmas tree and ornaments were damaged and food was lying on the floor in the kitchen.

Ball had left the left the residence before the officer arrived. Crynes tried to locate him,was not successful, but when he returned to the residence, Ball was there.

According to the police report, when Crynes entered, he could hear Ball yelling and screaming. He walked to a back room and then witnessed Ball push another man.

Crynes was told that Ball had become angry and had earlier punched another man in the head and grabbed him.

Officer Nick Yingling also assisted on the scene.

Ball was taken into custody and transported to the jail where he was booked in on preliminary charges of two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, both class A misdemeanors, and one count of criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.

His bond was set at $2,500.
