TERRE HAUTE -- For the fourth consecutive year, the Linton-Stockton Miners came up short against the Casey-Westfield (Ill.) Warriors at the Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic.

On Saturday in a consolation bracket contest, the Warriors outscored the Miners by 16 points at the foul line and by 21 from the 3-point line as the C-W defeated Linton-Stockton 70-64.

Brandon Wolfe made half of his 20 field goal attempts, including 7 of 12 from 3-point range, and swished all 10 foul shots enroute to a 37-point performance for the winners.

He scored 13 points in the second quarter as the Warriors outscored the Miners 17-6 over the final 5 1/2 minutes of the half to turn a 26-21 deficit into a 38-32 halftime cushion.

Casey-Westfield was able to increase its advantage to as much as 13 points -- 49-36 after a jumper by Trivette Scales, who finished with 15 points.

The Miners trailed 53-45 going to the fourth quarter but continued to make it interesting. Dess Fougerousse scored in the paint after receiving a pass from Keith Fulk, cutting the deficit to 62-58 at the 4:29 mark.

Fougerousse, who made 11 of 18 shots and tallied 25 points to lead Linton-Stockton, hit another two-pointer in the post as the Miners cut the C-W advantage to 62-60 with 2:12 to play.

Fougerousse, who scored six points in the fourth quarter, made a third straight hoop, but the Miners still trailed 65-62 with 83 seconds to play. They would come no closer.

The Miners shot 52 percent -- making 29 of 56 shots. Austin Karazsia also made 11 of 18 shots and tallied 23 points.

Karazsia and Fougerousse each finished with a double-double as the senior duo both grabbed 10 rebounds as the Miners had a 25-23 advantage on the boards. Both had two steals while Karazsia blocked two shots.

Keith Fulk contributed eight points, five assists and one steals.

But the biggest stat for the Miners was 21 turnovers.

"At least we get to practice Monday," said Joey Hart, alluding to the fact the Miners were eliminated after Saturday's loss instead of playing in the consolation championship game Monday. "And we need the practice."

The Miners, who are playing without Sam Dyar (knee injury suffered Thursday against Sullivan), still led 20-19 after the first quarter despite seven turnovers.

They made seven more in the third quarter.

"We just did not take care of the basketball or make very good decisions," said Hart. "You cannot do that and expect to win, especially against a good team."

The Miners had no answer for Wolfe, who was held scoreless from the field for the final 13-plus minutes, but made six foul shots in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors beat Linton-Stockton for the fourth straight time by a combined 27 points.

"We let him get going," Hart said of Wolfe. "Obviously he is a very good shooter and we did not do a very good job of defending him.

"He made some big shots for them, plus he didn't miss when we put him on the foul line."

The Miners, who finished 1-2 at the WVC, were 3 of 7 at the foul line while Casey-Westfield connected on 19 of 20.

Linton-Stockton (6-2) will open play at the Greene County Invitational at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 against Union at Switz City.

"We will get better," Hart said of having to adjust to the loss of Dyar. "But there was nothing positive to take out of this game."
