SWITZ CITY -- Linton-Stockton got rid of the bad taste of losing two games in three days at the Wabash Valley Classic last week by starting the Greene County Invitational with a 60-point victory.

The Class 2A No. 8 Miners had three players combine for over 70 points as Linton-Stockton cruised to a 96-36 win over Union in the opening game of the county tournament here Wednesday night.

It was the seventh victory in nine games for the Miners while Union slipped to 0-8.

"It feels better to win," said Miner boys basketball coach Joey Hart. "We were not locked in defensively in the first half.

"But we got locked in defensively in the second half," Hart said of holding the Bulldogs to just 16 points in the final 16 minutes.

Dess Fougerousse led the Miners with 30 points on 12-for-22 shooting. He added three steals, two assists and six rebounds.

Miner center Austin Karazsia made all five foul shots and 8 of 11 field goal attempts as he finished with 21 points, two assists and a block. He keyed a 43-20 rebounding edge, including 19-2 on the offensive glass, with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Guard Keith Fulk made 5 of 7 3-pointers and missed just three times in 11 total shots as he poured in a career-high 21 points. He also had five assists with no turnovers. He added two steals and four rebounds.

The Miners shot 57 percent as they made 38 of 67 attempts. They had 22 assists, led by Fulk.

"We did a really good job of moving the ball," said Hart. "I thought we played very unselfishly and did a good job of making their defense work."

Bryant Jackson had five steals as the Miners forced 26 turnovers by the Bulldogs, who played without starting center Ethan Fettig.

"They are a very good team," said Union coach Chip Langley. "They are deep, big, tall, fast and talented.

"We got killed on the boards and I don't think having Ethan would have made much of a difference. We also didn't do a very good job of handling the ball against their pressure in the halfcourt. You could tell we hadn't played in almost three weeks. Because of the weather, we couldn't get in the gym and you can tell we are out of shape."

Union, who shot .375 (15 of 40) was led by Ian Hamburg, who finished with 16 points on 8 of 17 shooting. Austin Robertson had eight points (3 of 5 shooting), five rebounds and two blocks. They were 11 of 22 while the rest of the team made 4 of 18 shots.

The Bulldogs, who have lost five straight to the Miners and 20 of 25, will now play North Central at 10 a.m. Saturday in a loser's bracket game.

Linton-Stockton will play at 6 p.m. Friday against Shakamak in the first semifinal.
