Lady Lakers win home game

Thursday, January 3, 2013

Playing for the first time in 16 days, Shakamak jumped out to a 17-12 lead and went on to defeat visiting West Vigo 47-36 in a battle between a pair of 3-9 high school girls basketball teams to begin 2013.

"For not having played in about 2 1/2 weeks, I thought we played well in the first half," said Shakamak coach Troy Fougerousse. "We led by 10 at half (29-19) but had a little bit of a let down in the third quarter.

"We picked it back up in the fourth and finished strong."

Fougerousse said that Sierra Hudson played her best game of the year without a doubt, as she scored 18 points. Kelsey Pilant added 12.

West Vigo won the junior varsity game 19-13.

Shakamak will host North Daviess Tuesday.
