Lions nip Lady Cards

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Bloomfield was outscored 23-17 in the middle two quarters as the Lady Cardinals lost a 41-40 decision to host Loogootee in a non-conference high school girls basketball game Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Cards slipped to 4-9.

"I wasn't disappointed in our effort at the end, but I was disappointed with our first three quarters," said BHS coach Chris Hitchcock. "We were lethargic at times.

"We played hard at the end, but in a game like this it comes down to every possession. A turnover here and a miss foul shot there are the difference in close games."

Hitchcock said they have to be better earlier in games.

"We have had a habit of getting five, six or eight down and having to fight back," he said. "That puts us in a position of having do too much leg work in the fourth quarter.

"We have to be better in the middle quarters. When we do that, we will start winning some games."

Marissa McIntosh led the Cards with 14 points.

"We had a buzzer-beater shot at the end to win," said Hitchcock. "McIntosh did such a great job for us today, but her shot at the end would not fall.

"I told her not to ever hesitate if she had that shot again. I was so proud of the way she played today."

There was no junior varsity game at the request of the host Lady Lions.

The Lady Cards will host Washington Tuesday.
