SWITZ CITY -- The early struggles that dogged the Bloomfield Cardinals in their first round game of the Greene County Invitational against host WRV Thursday continued into Saturday morning.

This time it was the Clay City Eels who benefitted from their woes with a 60-47 win over the Cards in the consolation round of the GCI.

Evan Rogers threw down a game-high 26 points and Trevor Singer added 11 as the Eels sent Bloomfield into the seventh place game against Union, who fell earlier in the day to North Central.

"We held Blake Cessinger to eight points and LOgan Cessinger to four, their big weapons," BHS coach Matt Britton said. "The had a lot more offensive weapons today and we were unable to keep pace with what they doing against us."

Most of the damage done by the Clay City duo came in the game's second half where Bloomfield really struggled -- and oh did I mention the 11 of 25 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc the Eels displayed.

"Clay City really shot the ball well, they were 0-15 on three's Thursday night, then they came out tonight and couldn't miss," Britton said. "Rogers hit six on us and Singer three."

The Cardinals appeared to be resilient in their second go-round during their maiden appearance at the GCI, but a slow start to the third quarter provided all the impetus Clay City would need.

BHS was just 2 for 9 during the frame and allowed the Eels to put a 22-22 halftime deadlock in the rearview mirror.

The Cardinals recovered in the fourth quarter but were still outscored 25-19.
