Lady Miners grab second win

The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners got a dozen points from Mercedes Shafford and 10 from Joie Gadberry as they defeated Washington Catholic 39-35 at the Birdcage on Saturday afternoon.

It was the second win of the year -- and the first road win -- for Linton-Stockton against 14 losses.

The Lady Miners jumped to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter before taking a 21-13 advantage into the intermission.

The Lady Cardinals rallied to cut the margin to one at 28-27 by the end of the third quarter, but an 11-8 Linton-Stockton advantage in the final stanza secured the win.

Brilee Parker added five points for the Lady Miners while Courtney Johnson added four, Carlie Booe six, and Avaree Dunn one.

Jacklyn Nash also saw action for Linton-Stockton who travels to Bloomfield on Thursday for a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference game at Glover Gym.

L-S prevailed in the junior varsity contest by a 31-14 tally.
