North Daviess tops Union

Thursday, January 17, 2013

North Daviess extended its winning streak to four games after a 48-39 victory over visiting Union in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference girls basketball game at Elnora Thursday night.

North Daviess remained undefeated in the conference (5-0) and pushed its overall record to 13-3.

Union dropped to 5-9, 2-5 in league play.

"They are a really good team," said Union coach Benji Boyd. "We played a pretty good game offensively, but defensively we still have a ways to go.

"We let (Meghan) Knepp get loose and she is too good of a shooter to do that. We let the (Sabra) Smith girl roam the lane too much. We have to do a better job of learning how to put a body on girls in the lane."

Smith led the winners with 23 points and Knepp hit four 3-pointers as part of a 14-point performance.

Hallie Smith had 14 points to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Hannah Sullivan added nine.

Union will host Robinson, Ill. in another varsity-only game at 1 p.m. Saturday before Shakamak visits for a 6:30 p.m. game Monday.
