Cards lose at No. 4 Loogootee, 49-43

Friday, January 18, 2013

After leading for most of the game, Bloomfield ended up on the short end of a 49-43 score against Class A No. 4 Loogootee Friday night at Jack Butcher Arena.

"We played really well for 3 1/2 quarters," said BHS boys basketball coach Matt Britton, whose Cardinals led 13-5, 19-18 and 35-32 at the first three quarter stops. "We took a lead midway until the fourth quarter.

"They were able to get ahead and we got it back to a one point game with 50 seconds to play. Loogootee just buried free throw after free throw after free throw at the end. And we just could not get the big basket that we needed to get over the hump."

Ben Hays paced the Cards with 14 points. Jared Myers hit for 12 points and Kyle Robinson added 10.

"We had three guys in double figures," said Britton. "Jared Myers played a really good game.

"I though that Jesse Helms and Connor Dowden also played well defensively."

The Cardinals return to action Saturday at Shoals.

A solid job. A much closer game than expected.
