Cardinals win eighth game

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Bloomfield used a healthy advantage at the foul line as the Cardinals picked up their eighth win of the high school boys basketball season.

The Cardinals improved to 8-7 after a 55-35 non-conference victory at Shoals Saturday night. The Jug Rox slipped to 2-10.

Bloomfield made 27 of 40 free throws as Shoals was whistled for 29 fouls.

The Jug Rox hit 9 of 14 freebies.

Jared Myers connected on 13 of 16 foul shots and led the winners with 19 points. Kyle Robinson made 6 of 10 field goals and 4 of 6 free throws and the starting forward finished with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

"This was a battle," said Bloomfield coach Matt Britton. "Shoals plays very hard.

"We were not ready to play defense in the first half. We did a better job in the second half."

He said that Robinson and Myers both had good games in addition to Conner Dowden, Eli Combs and Jesse Helms.

"We had a lot of kids that played very well for us," said Britton. "It was a total team effort."

Dylan Erwin had 11 points to pace Shoals, who shot 30 percent (12 of 40).

Shoals did win the junior varsity game 44-37.

The Cards will play at North Central Friday in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference game.
